i thought i should let y'all know that summer has officially begun. is it the increasing humidity? the temperatures over 100 degrees? the plethora of bugs? nope, none of those (although all of those have happened!) the leadership staff arrived at camp on friday, and that officially begins my summer.
currently we have 7 summer staff members here. i don't think that they have been here long enough to give you an accurate description of what the summer will be like, but i definitely think you can figure out how the summer will go based on your leadership (aka director) team. i will let you know in a few days. although, i did just give my staff a lecture about not judging the staff based on past experiences or rumors or anything - "let's give everyone a fresh start this summer" i said basically. we'll see if that actually happens. i'm hopeful.
this camp is so different from the place i was before - in colorado they give the kids choices and they get to hire the best staff because they have enough people to interview that they actually get to say no to more than 2 people in one summer, they think it's fabulous to sleep outside because the stars are amazing and there aren't really bugs to worry about. they choose to cook over campfires because it's a fun challenge. they expect the best out of their staff and the director's set that expectation by following the rules themselves.
but, in texas we've got room for improvement and i've been trained by the best, so bring. it. on.
it'll be a great summer...just a little different than the summers before, and that's ok. but i think i'm no longer allowed to look at that "other" staff's pictures on facebook because it makes me homesick.
oh, and i keep learning about rodents and bugs that live in my house and i'm sick of it. as soon as i get a break i'm buying every kind of poison and trap that will fit in my car and setting them up in my house. THIS IS WAR!
