silly!
Has your life been changed by Silly Bandz yet? Well let me explain :)
They are these plastic bracelets that look like rubber bands when they're on your wrist, but when you take them off, they make cool shapes!
These are the latest trend for the under 30 crowd. I just picked some up tonight (I got a few hours off!). I'm hoping to give them to the staff and then it can spark some conversations with the kids. Pretty silly, but pretty fun!

the flood!
Today I get a call on the radio and the conversation goes something like this:
Summer Site Director: Sara, the toilet in cabin 4 is overflowing. Who should I call?
Me: I got it, no worries.
SSD: Great, thanks.
Office staff: (overhearing our conversation) Do you need Gene (our maintenance man)?
Me: Nope, I got it. No big deal. (Knowing that this happens all the time, and the staff don't know to take the cover off the top and pull up the little floater thing to stop the water. Little did I know...)
Office staff: ok great.
I run to cabin 4, meeting one of the counselors along the way. Apparently this is not just an overflowing toilet. As I step into 3 inches of water rushing out the door to get into the cabin, the radio conversation continues like this.
Me: (inbetween fits of laughter) Um....office staff, can you please call Gene? It's a way bigger problem than I imagined.
Office staff: yep, sure thing.
Me: I'm gonna need some help here. (insert more laughter) Any activity staff that are available, please come to Cabin 4, we have a flood. You should bring towels, push brooms, and mops. And hurry. (laughter) Please!
In just a few moments, we figure out how to stop the toilet from continuously overflowing. I then learn that the toilet has been running since the campers left for lunch about 45 minutes ago. You know, no big deal.
The wonderful activities staff come running over to cabin 4 with their various flood-reducing elements. Some brought towels, some brought mops, and this one brought a plunger and a swiffer. A swiffer??? REALLLY? INCHES of water are COVERING the floor, and you think a swiffer was an appropriate tool? Haha. It was a really great laugh, mostly because I'm not sure he understood how ridiculous it was. Where do I find these people????!?!?!
Here's the kicker. Guess what we studied in Bible study today? Noah and the flood.
God has a great sense of humor.

camp!
Campers come tomorrow!
For the closing of staff training, we held our version of Prom, which of course includes ridiculous outfits and costumes. Here's a fun picture!
My friend Leah got married about 2 months ago now...here's my favorite picture from the night.
And that's about it. Next week I get to travel to Corpus Christi to do an ACA (American Camp Association) visit to accredit a camp. It sounds more important than it is. This week should be a little crazy, but then hopefully we'll find our rhythm!
