another la grange moment

today i started really shopping for car insurance. which makes sense because you know, i moved here3.5 months ago and i still have colorado plates and a colorado license. well, my plates expire this month and since i leave on friday...i better get new plates so i can drive when i get back. thus the search for car insurance.

after a lot of attempts with online companies, i decided that i should try things the old fashion way and actually go visit these companies and get a quote live and in person. turns out that's not all that much slower than online with the internet i have at my house! i got three quotes today all in about an hour. imagine that - if you can't find it online, you can just go to the actual place and ask them! wow. i feel as though i'm working backwards in time...

i did miss the window on the drivers license though. the dmv (or the texas equivalent which i think is called something else...) is only open in la grange on wednesdays. so, tomorrow i will have to drive to columbus to get a new id. no biggie. apparently it's a good idea to stay away from the la grange dmv because they're not too computer savvy there.

anyways, so my newest la grange moment happened today. when i went to the first insurance place, i sat down with the nice lady and was giving her all my info when we got to the job part. now i've noticed that people either know about lutherhill or have no idea whatsoever what that is, no where inbetween. so i tell her i work at lutherhill and she gives me this look that i couldn't quite decipher. then she says, you work with milisa yes? and i said, yes i do. and she said, oh yes, she's talked about a sara before. and i was like oh man, this is a small town. not sure how i feel about this, but i figure it's kind of like cu. the engineering school was about the size of la grange (roughly 5000 people) and in the school i pretty much recognized everyone, especially everyone from my program (all 8 of us). but then as soon as i left the engineering center, i hardly knew anyone, and that's what it's like when i go to austin or san antonio or houston (although i've already been learning that houston's not as fun as the other two). so, i'll just have to find a balance between everyone knowing my business and no one even knowing who i am. oh the joys of living in a small town.

well you'll be happy to know that our water is back to the nasty normal it usually is. i've taken to drinking bottled water for a little while now. mostly because we had some left over from the water we bought for the retreat group and partly because i don't really want to drink our water here after it looked like coffee. oh well...soon enough i'll be back in colorado where the water is WONDERFUL! i can't wait, for that and other reasons :)

ok, enough for now. i'm trying to pack for colorado but i just don't really want to pack, i just want to be there.

this state is crazy!

on saturday i got pulled over for "speeding." i'm convinced the fayette county sherrif just needed to know who this jeep wrangler with colorado plates belonged to, because he let me off with a warning. either that or i'm that good at getting out of tickets (not true...) not to mention i haven't changed my plates or my driver's liscense to texas yet and i was technically supposed to do that approximately 71 days ago. oops :)

today i went to get a snack out of my cupboard and remembered that i had some pretzels in there from a while ago. i got them out of the cupboard and started to eat them. (good story so far, yes?) i noticed they were shaped awfully funny and then i realized....they're all shaped like either the state of texas or cowboy boots.

today is december 11th, as in 14 days til christmas and it was 77 degrees today.
