bambi!

Yesterday we got 100 beds and lots of other furniture delivered for the new cabins.  It was literally an all day process of unloading the truck.  Apparently the truck they came on is only a delivery truck, and the receivers are responsible for unloading the truck.  To the point that the truck did not even carry a pallet mover or anything!  This was rather shocking to me since I don't normally get an entire 18-wheeler full of furniture delivered to me.  Apparently that's kind of normal?  Who knows.  Not only did we get an entire 18 wheeler of furniture delivered, they came about 21 hours early....oops.

Our staff is pretty amazing, and we grabbed keys to the camp trucks and tractor and away we went, unloading all of this furniture.  There's definitely something to be said about doing physical labor to bring a group together.  It was really fun to have most of the full time staff together working on one project.  The truck arrived at about 11 am, and it didn't pull away until about 3 pm.  Most of the delay was that Gene had to run to town to rent a pallet mover.  Good thing the big town of La Grange had one!  Also, since they came early, 3 of us were busy teaching 60 6th graders about orienteering, water works, and team building, so we weren't able to help until about 2.  It was a crazy day, but it all got done.

After the craziness yesterday, Evan went over to the canteen this morning (the temporary location of the new furniture) and found a little surprise trying out our new furniture.

So incredibly cute!  I cannot believe how tiny this fawn is.

Those are just normal 2x4s (? i think?) on the deck, so just imagine how small this creature is.  She definitely would have fit in my two hands.  Amazing.

Even more amazing was that we had another 60 6th graders running around the site today, and she didn't budge.  I have been told that mama deer like to "drop" their babies off in places where there are humans.  If there are humans, then other animals and predators won't be around to harm their babies.  Pretty good thinking....not so sure why they trust humans, but they do.  I'm also not sure why they trust ME, given my record with deer and my car.  Guess it would be hard to get my car close to this baby on the porch, so the mama must have figured she was safe there, haha.

This weekend we have family camp, and the average age of kids is like 5, so it'll be lots of fun and early bedtimes, which I am all about!  I'm hoping to get back into running this weekend, after some old-age pains after turning the big 2-6.  Haha!

I GIVE!

Ok, ok ok ok ok ok ok!  Here is a post for all you bored people out there.  I haven't edited any of the photos, so I guess you'll see that all my photo skilz come from photoshop...haha.

Mom and Dad came to visit, and we went to Galveston for a little beach time.
We saw some Jelly Fish washed up on shore.
The upside of Hurricane Ike!
I had to give them the Texas experience, so we took some "family" pictures in the blue bonnets (yes, I'm aware that a few members are missing, that's what the quotes are for.)

Chris' dog Delilah really likes the hose!  Check out that air!
Chris and I built a garden.  Here's the progress.
And that's about it!  Will you get off my back for not updating my blog now?  I don't have internet at my house (for a month now!) so that's my excuse.
