volleyball!

i played volleyball with the most wonderful kids tonight! there were two girls in particular that were just amazing. first off, they are junior high age girls - so their peers are all concerned with cell phones and make up and being popular. these girls were fabulous! we were playing volleyball with three other kids that were just plain awkward and not coordinated. time after time after time they would pass the ball to the other kids, and when they would make a less than great hit, they would say "good try! almost! try again!" plus, they would keep passing the ball to them, even though they screwed up the plays every time. it would have been so easy for them exclude the other kids based on many different factors, but instead they went above and beyond and included them in their game.

i hope that gives you hope for the world, cuz it gave me hope.

deer #2

oh, and i hit another deer on monday night. i'm fine and my car is a little dented. more details later.

hello dolly!

so hurricane dolly is headed towards texas today, but don't be worried...texas is a rather large state and i am a long ways from being in any sort of danger! luckily, we will be getting rain (90% chance - horray!) and some cooler temperatures (92 instead of 102!!!) so i'm actually thankful for the hurricane....or at least thankful for the change in weather.

i was just getting used to the temperatures when the humidity started increasing and then the temperatures went up as well. i can't win!

if you want to see what the weather is looking like for me, weather.com works well (my zip is 78945 - a fun number to type on your keypad) or you could go to www.kvue.com. that's an austin station that usually does pretty well with the local weather.

ok, that's all i got. we've only got 14.5 days of campers left!

it's about time...

so, as i've been reminded, it's about time to write another post. i'm sorry there's been such a lag!

in true camp style, i'll give you a list of highs (great things that have happened) and lows (not so great things that have happened).

HIGHS (in no particular order)
-i got to go to girls night tonight - it was the best girls night pretty much ever. we (meaning me with a little bit of help) made pizza with pesto and feta and tomatos and artichokes. YUM! we also had some delicious beverages and equally delicious conversations.
-i got to go to pottery today and made something for two someones. i'll bring it to you on august 24 :)
-i'm really tired but that's from a summer full of fun.
-i get to go to colorado and michigan in less than a month! colorado = time at rtlc (i can't get enough of camp!) and michigan = wedding dress shopping! (for rachel, not me silly)
-i think i've finally gotten rid of the ants and mice in my house! for the ants, i wiped down all my hard surfaces in my kitchen with vinegar (which smells like vomit, btw...either that or poached pears that tim tried to make us one time) but the smell went away and so did (most) of the ants.
-i have my own house which means no living with other summer staff members AND my own bathroom, HORRAY!
-rachel's engaged!
-we have little kids this week and they are so adorable!
-my new car has air conditioning, which is a life saver!
-the cut on my leg is healing nicely, and me and ropes course are getting along well
-i love gmail chats
-i love technology - email, facebook, digital photos, cell phones, PLANE TICKETS! any thing that helps me communicate with the people i love and miss
-malea's engaged!
-i love yoga and the old(er) ladies that are there
-i love that we don't have to do ropes this week - i'm a little tired of that, and hopefully that means we can get other maintenace stuff done.
-i cannot wait until week 10 when i get to be in heaven
-i'm becoming more of a hippie in the most anti-hippie place i've ever been in...and it's great.
-there's going to be a fun announcement at the staff meeting tomorrow!
-i get to go to washington in about 2 months!
-i love that i have a job where i earn enough money to do the things i really care about (like traveling to see the people i really care about)
-i like that camp keeps me busy enough during the summer that i can't spend much money and then i get to splurge on things like clothes from rei and plane tickets
-i love the people i work with, even if they don't agree with my camp philosophy 100% and they gossip a lot

LOWS
-it's like a sauna outside, everyday
-i'm really tired and wondering if i've been working as hard as i should
-my staff is crazy
-my house is dirty
-it's freaking hot here
-i did not get a weekend this weekend so i'm a little punchy...or as jen likes to say it "sassy"
-i keep meaning to call my favorite camp director and chat with him, but he never answers and then i forget to call him back...this has been a couple weeks in the process
-i miss the mountains
-i need a haircut
-i need a weekend
-i haven't gotten my camera out for a long time...minus the parade on the 4th
-i hate camp food
-i am not a fan of some people, esp those who don't work hard
-i hate that money dictates (some) things at camp...and politics
-my favorite tv show starts at 11:07 pm....it would be much better for me if it started even 1/2 an hour eariler (my life is so hard!)
-i'm worried we won't get to hire new blood for our new position....or hire anyone for that matter

ok...i think that's it for now. i'm pretty tired, but rejuvinated from the night of yoga and hanging out with my texas girls.
